The collaboration between Jean-Louis and Tobias on a body of work named ‘Autumn Leaves’, began during the summer of 2014. The choice of subject matter was quickly settled. Both Jean-Louis and Tobias harbour a deep fondness for the Irish countryside; the fields, mountains and rivers of county Sligo, which formed the backdrop to their relationship as father and son, have always featured prominantly in their work.
The collaboration progressed with a natural rhythm. Jean-Louis and Tobias produced monoprint-story pairings on a monthly basis, choosing each new scene for its relation to the time of year, from the heart of winter to the budding of spring. These seasonal changes are keenly felt in the studio where Jean-Louis works, and his strong connection with his environment is evident in the monoprints. For Tobias, county Sligo is the home of his childhood, and his stories reflect his child-like reverence for all the grand and intimate spaces of Sligo’s countryside.
The works were exhibited in the Exhibition Room of Ballymote Library as well as in the Leitrim Design House in Carrick on Shannnon.
